Clark Kent And His Super Friends: A Birthday Special

Orli Gayeta a.k.a. DJ Clark Kent of myBay Radio 104.7 and
Comet Magazine

Orli, popularly known as Clark Kent of Batangas City’s leading radio station myBay Radio 104.7 fm, has organized and managed several events  in the past. That includes musical bar and resto parties as per insistent demands by the latter. He was even able to bring Jovit Baldivino in one of his events which others hardly get the chance to pocket such opportunity. But it’s just a piece of cake for Kent. And on the night of his birthday celebration, March 23, he was again able to write himself with screaming lines on Batangas City’s party culture and history.

And for that, let me give you some reasons why you should have not missed the party.

For one, the party was help at Jenina’s Garden Restaurant at Brgy. Libjo, Batangas City. Wait, that’s not the intriguing one. The amazing part is, he’s able to bring Batangas City’s best food caterers into one place! There’s Jenina’s Catering, Nilda Chua’s Catering, Argeos Catering and Ginazel’s Catering. You might think food flooded the event. No, don’t be misled. They just brought something special for Kent. Competition among them was left back home and came to the event with smile for each other.

SBM Boyet De Leon serenading everyone
with lovely song.
This time, the Man of Steel’s revelry turned out to become one of the most intriguing happening in partying Batangas since he was able to bring into one roof the City’s notable figures and personalities –from Barangay to Provincial government officials, to businessmen, and down to closest friends. It was a melting pot of characters.

Kent might take his lifetime to thank the people who brought glitz and glamour to his birthday celebration. But in any case, this page can start returning them the favor. This is just the beginning and it will never come an end.

Being connected with myBay Radio 104.7 fm and working full time for Comet Magazine, his personal and professional working relationship with friends and clients never waned. And this resulted to sixteen (16) mouth-watering birthday cakes which one table alone cannot accommodate. To start with, there’s Dr. Melody Rivera of Britesmile Clinic; Adjie Tan of Great Fun Tutorial; Ludeth Cruz of Bel Piatto CafĂ© and Bistro; Tita Eng of Freshdough Bakeshop; April Gemelo of Le Breeze; Marc Ivan Tan of 1st Elite Fitness Center; and Gina and Luz Cunanan of Ginazel’s Catering.

Not to be left behind were Kent’s high school Brigitine friends back in 1984. Strengthening their bond with each other, some from Singapore, who went out their way to share Kent’s precious moment were Weng Plata,Wweng Panganiban, Gigi Kalalo, Shellane Domingo and Gado Baliwag, Engr. Cherry Abuzman Sampol and Juvy Calpito. His daughter’s Monique also brought along her friend Carnilda “Cang” Carpio from De La Salle Lipa.

Of all invitations he received, Senior Board Member Christopher De Leon just couldn’t turn down Kent. And to everyone’s surprise, Boyet, together with wife Sandy Andolong, Senior Staff Mr. Arevalo and former BM Peter Carandang, graced the occasion. Guess what? They were the early birds to open the affair’s curtains. And together with other well-wishers, he even performed a song! I say, that’s highly appreciable of TV and Provincial Capitol personalities. More respect for Sir Boyet De Leon.

And yes, the men of words and honor of The Friday Club showed the gentleman in them. They’ve marked their calendar and made their presence felt on the said event.

To mention more of the guests, and likewise thanking them. Thanks to Mrs. Letty Chua, Ruby Fajardo and family, Mrs. Mina MAranan and hubby, Coun. Segie Atienza, Coun. Dio Ferriols, Coun. Claudette Ambida, Coun Mando Lazarte, Mrs. Tess Lim- Ramirez, Emmie Medrano, Tita wham, Mr. Nilo Nebreja, Mr. Roweno Alforte fr the Mayor’s office of Lobo, and Mr. Allen Macaraig of Maptan.

And since it’s a merry-making night, song birds filled the garden with songs and music. Kudos to Dr Melody rivera, Nica Andal, Coun. Dio Ferriols, BM Boyet de Leon,  X 4 Zando, Batangas talents from the city hall which was a birthday gift from City Administrator Mr. Philip Baroja, Tikya of the Chubbies, and Brgy. Chairman Atoy of Brgy 13.

The event was made possible through the help of Kent’s friends like organizer Mabuena Rosales and host Dorothy Aclan. Photo shots were done by Dennis Perez, Roman Duenas and Nica Andal (Jenina’s Garden Restaurant owner’s daughter). Tarpaulin on the other hand was designed by DJ Marcus of 99.1 Spirit FM.

Your mind has been flying around in scout for one perfect paradise to sooth your dead-beaten mind and body from the hassle of city life. Options include traversing one’s way to countryside. Sometimes, brochures sprung all over your coffee table from hundreds of resorts sprouting overnight around the Province like mushrooms, claiming to offer the best experience anyone can imagine.  However, despite their number, only one comes close to perfection. And that’s Residencia De Riego and Resort.

The world is too much for us. It never ceases to burden us down with its idiosyncrasies, defusing and exhausting us until we drop flat on the ground. In cases like these, once in a while, we all need to stop to revitalize and gain the piece by piece and every bit of life that we have. And where in the world are we to find that? No need to look that far. Batangas has brewed something special. And great people with great minds go to Residencia De Riego and Resort.

Location map for Residencia De Riego.
Situated in the middle of farmlands in Alitagatag, Residencia defines anew the true meaning of relaxion. No. Residencia De Riego can’t provide the adventure you’re looking for. It’s just a fraction of something. Residencia De Riego can grant everything your mind, body and soul may desire for –a blissful encounter with heaven and earth’s grandness with their state-of-the-art facilities.

Rooms are classified into four: the Kubo Villas, De Luxe Rooms, Supreme Rooms and Econo Rooms. Based on the number of beds and amenities installed their price ranges from P3,000.00 to P8,000.00. Expensive? No, they’re reasonable enough. Why? Because each one of them can soothe and pacify your trouble mind as you lay back into peaceful slumber. Basic amenities installed include refrigerator, flat screen TV with satellite, comfort room with shower heater, intercom, ACU, and WiFi. With these, is there any reason for you to complain?

Residencia's kugon cottages.
Any worn-out and fatigued creature can lay back worry-free at their Kubo Villa. Although made of concrete walls, they’re still accented with Filipino touch of class with capiz window and wooden door panel. No need to worry, you won’t get lost. Even their kubo stands head up with WiFi connections. And if you want to have a good feel of the nature’s cool breeze, you can try their Open Cottages with traditional kugon-roof. That’s more than enough to see every angle of the resort’s cinematic scenes and sceneries.

At night, Residencia de Riego’s attraction centers at the majestic collision of lights and water at their swimming pool. Their two (2) rain flow type adult pools feature a 12-color logic lights like a painter recreating and putting more life back into a blue canvas. Rest assured, the starry clear sky can stand witness to this spectacle that only Riego can create.

The Bar.
Not far from the pool, great plates are waiting to be discovered at their Riego Bar and Restaurant. The enticing scent of their gastronomic and mouth-watering International and Filipino foods concoctions can ring a bell into one’s rave-hungry tummy, the same way you crave for your Mon’s recipe back home. And if you find yourself at the resort during weekends, you won’t even think that you’ve left the Metropolis. The bar features acoustic and band performances that easily fill the air with smooth and easy listening music.

One more thing. Residencia de Riego can also accommodate large groups at their Conference Room and Veranda. No need to worry about food, they can cater to that. If you’ll storm the place with an army of at least fifty (50), each of them can shell out P350.00, cheap enough to flood their plates either with chicken, pork, beef or seafood, plus vegetable, rice, dessert and drinks. Even if they charge no corkage fee, and with their convenience store open 24 hours, I don’t think you still need to bring food. Although that will always be an option.

There are still more to talk about the place. No article will ever be adequate to describe and to picture such paradise. Better yet, jump into your gears and feel alive at Residencia De Riego.

Waking Up Batangas Port

Summer is just sitting like duck on your car's trunk. Have you taken a peek of it? And when you realized it's about time to take it out in the open, you should be heading to Batangas Port. Don't wait before the Port wakes up. For when it does, even in the middle of the heat of scorching sun, the Port will be as busy as it can be all throughout summer.

As of this time, everything goes well at the Port. Nothing in a hurry. Everyone is taking some time enjoying the waiting time. According to some Port officials, the Batangas Port, popularly known as Pier, will soon be on its feet by first week of April. Students may have their vacation already, but their volume storming the place is still minimal compared to what they were expecting.

As of now, some locals and foreigners have been taking advantage the luxury of owning the place. At an average, a decent 200 passengers have been occupying hundreds of seats in the waiting area. Nothing unusual. Nothing to worry about being left behind by one's tidal ride. Everything works as smooth as they can be. Even lines on ticketing booths won't scream of discrimination of the Port's operation.

The Port has been dubbed as the region's anchor for economic and tourism development. For almost 53 years in operation, the Pier got so much attention during the time of former Gov. Mandanas. The Pier even brought the former governor to many magazine covers. A multi-million dollar structure was even built in front of the Port itself. The building was dubbed as Port's livelihood haven for striving businessmen. But up to now, from the time it was constructed, nothing can be found except for some "pasalubong" vendors lined up at the hallway leading to ticketing booths. A waste of people's money.

However, let's just wait until the Port it fully operational. The building might come to its good use after all. Cross our fingers then.

The Port's waiting area is as good as ever. And as what we've said, as of this time, the place is hassle free. Passengers can even have their nails done, giving more opportunity to some service providers. And when you get caught with no water to rinse your dry throat, well, you can Le Breeze Tropical Fruit Shake. All Filipino fruits we crave for are there to be sized up on a cup. Ice will create the magic. And whatever you like, you choose your own concoctions of fruit shake. Le Breeze is a sure hit. A refreshing one.

Just a friendly advice. Be at the Port and wake it up from deep sleep. Be on a vacation. Now!
